While it’s important to offer emotional support to people you love, you also have to know how to protect your heart from people who take advantage of your kindness.

Here are 5 simple ways to stop absorbing negative energy:

1. Stop People-Pleasing.

When people complain about you or try to bring you down, don’t take it personally. This kind of behavior is more a reflection of who they are than of your worth.

The more you let yourself be influenced by gossip, the more you begin to depend on the praise of others.

It’s important to realize that you can’t make everyone like you and that your worth doesn’t come from the opinions of others.

Love yourself first and foremost and let go of people who bring you down.

2. Keep Vampires At Bay.

Have you ever had a friend that just sucks the life out of you? The kind of friend that you have to gather up your strengths to hang out with and leaves you feeling emotionally and physically drained?

These kinds of people are referred to as emotional vampires.

These people always have time to see you when they need support but are never available when you need help. And the more they complain, the more they find new things to complain about.

Remind yourself that it’s never your responsibility to fix another person’s problems, not even a family member. If they can’t help themselves, don’t carry their burden for them.

Giving in to someone’s drama won’t help them, and it certainly won’t help you.

Soak up the pure energy of the world around you and reconnect with your authentic self.

5. Take Responsibility.

Ultimately, you are the only person who decides how you feel. No matter what environment you’re in, you have the choice to stay strong or to let others have power over you.

Once you take responsibility for your emotions, you release yourself from the influence of others.

When you feel confident and love yourself, you gain emotional strength and endurance.

Don’t forget to stay positive in your daily life. It’s okay to let yourself have negative thoughts every once in a while, and when you do, live through them and let them go.

Sometimes a good cry is the best medicine.

  2. When I sense my me is being sucked out of me to become now a not me…..I just wish the other person a good day and exit stage left being filled up to the mental brim .

    It usually is the smirk, the incessant talking and the overbearing of being taken over like a bad spell of weather and soaked with the hyperbole of the day. Each day there are different flavors one has to listen, hear,smell,taste and feel to realize what type of take over so it is today.
    Although my boundaries are assulted constantly I swiftly get across my mental drawbridge covering the moat and raise it leaving the other to drown in their own rhetoric. Recently one chap approached and before the person gets started, I say, oh by the way we covered that already and it laid a lead ballon so what else do you have? Nothing you see because they have nothing , they want the me of me to sacrifice my me so all I have is my not me which is not me they can control so keeping me in balance and my me now I can not be compromised and soon they run out of gas and find someone else to initiate into their ways of control and thankfully today it is not me because the me headed into my armoured mental castle the drawbridge up.
