Day by day, we run off of a routine. Get up, get dressed, go to work, come home, dinner, tv, and bed. In between all that is the traffic, the boss yelling, the angry customer, the call from the school. It goes on and on, day by day. The life questions that run through our mind are what’s for dinner, why is he so angry, when can I retire, how much longer do I have to do this for.
Questions whirl throughout our minds all day. The real question, however, is, are you asking yourself the right questions? Could it possibly be time for a shake-up? Ask yourself some of these life questions and see what your answers are. Maybe it’s time.
1. Am I truly happy at my job?
You spend upwards to 10 hours a day at your job. You’re there 5-6 days a week. 50-60 hours. Are you doing what you love? Are you only doing it for the money? Is there any happiness attached to that paycheque? You spend more time at your job than you do at your own home with your family and friends. Shouldn’t you be doing something you love or at the very least makes you happy?
2. Am I living my purpose?
Have you figured out what your purpose is yet? Have you discovered that one thing that fires up your soul? Brings you ridiculous joy? If you have found it, are you working it? Are you taking time out of your schedule daily or weekly to engage in it? Do you try to make it a point to get in at least one hour a week of the thing that lights you up? Do you, are you, will you can you?
3. What am I missing?
That’s sort of a puzzling question. How do we know we’re missing it if we don’t know what it is? Or do you? Are you missing fun, travel, alone time, private time? Is there something you want more of that you aren’t getting? Something more you aren’t doing and really want to be doing?
4. Am I taking life too seriously?
No really, are you? Are you fussing over silly little things? Worrying too much about things you have no control over? Stressing over things that you really shouldn’t be? Are you forgetting to relax, chill out and have more fun? Did you forget your days are numbered? For all of us, not just you. Are you taking enough time to stop and smell the roses in the wildflower bushes?
5. Am I spending enough time with the people who really, truly matter to me?
How many times does someone call to meet and you’re too busy for a 30-minute chat and drink? Are you hanging out with the people who make you laugh and bring you joy? You know the ones. The ones you can have deep hard belly laughs with. The people who you can totally be yourself with and know, there is much comfort there. Those ones. Are you spending as much time with them as you should be?
6. Is there one thing I really want to do but have been too afraid to do it?
In other words, is your fear keeping you from doing all the cool stuff you want to? Is fear controlling your life? Has it been doing it for too long? Are you ready to kick your fear to the curb? Are you tired of being a slave to fear and are willing to start living your life?
As you can see, each question raises a million more. So, have you asked yourself any of those life questions lately? Do you know the answers to any of them? Some of them? Of course you do. We’re often afraid of the answers because they require change and not all of us are ready to do that either.
Make time, find your purpose, be ready. It’s your life. It’s the only one you get. Are you living it the way you should be? That’s the big question right there.
